Brevard Humane Society is giving its biggest annual fundraiser an emerald-green twist this year.

The nonprofit's 15th annual Tuxes & Tails Gala, themed “Wicked Fur Good,” is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Radisson Resort at the Port in Cape Canaveral.

The evening raises money for shelter operations, medical treatment and programs that help homeless pets move toward safer, healthier lives and permanent homes.

What guests can expect

The official event listing describes a full evening of entertainment and fundraising rather than a standard banquet.

Tom and Susie Wasdin and the Wasdin family will host the gala, with Mindy from Lite Rock 99.3 FM serving as emcee. The lineup includes live entertainment, special performances and a live auction benefiting animals in Brevard Humane Society's care.

Subaru of Melbourne is presenting the event. Cocoa Village Playhouse and Cirque It Events are also listed among the special appearances.

The Wicked-inspired theme gives guests plenty of room to have fun with the dress code—anything from a touch of green to full theatrical flair—while keeping the focus on the animals the evening supports.

Where the money goes

Brevard Humane Society says gala proceeds directly support lifesaving programs that provide shelter, medical care and second chances to pets in need.

The organization has served animals in the county for 74 years. It operates adoption services in Cocoa and Merritt Island, along with a wellness clinic, foster opportunities, volunteer programs and other support for animals and the people caring for them.

The Humane Society also says only nine cents of every donated dollar goes toward administrative overhead. That makes a gala ticket, table or sponsorship more than admission to a themed night out; it helps pay for the day-to-day work that continues after the ballroom is cleared.

The gala will be held at:

Radisson Resort at the Port 8701 Astronaut Blvd. Cape Canaveral, FL 32920

Brevard Humane Society is currently directing guests to its Tuxes & Tails sponsorship and ticket page for available packages and admission options. Because availability can change as the event approaches, guests should check the official page before making plans.

People who cannot attend can still support the organization by donating directly or exploring its foster and volunteer opportunities.

For one Saturday night, the yellow brick road leads to Cape Canaveral—and every auction bid and sponsorship helps a Brevard pet find the next stop on its way home.
