The Free Brevard Parks Programs Residents May Not Know Exist
Brevard's parks and nature centers offer guided hikes, storytimes, bird walks, touch tanks and historic-house tours — many of them free.
Brevard County's parks and environmental centers offer much more than trails and picnic tables. Their calendars regularly include guided hikes, storytimes, bird walks, touch tanks, historic-house tours, eco-art and seasonal sea-turtle programs.
Many are free. The catch is that the dates move, registration may be required and the programs are spread across several calendars. This guide is the map; check the official calendar before leaving home.
Enchanted Forest Sanctuary, Titusville
The Enchanted Forest Sanctuary protects more than 400 acres of scrub, hammock and pine flatwoods. Recurring programs include ranger-led hikes and Nature Storytime for young children. Seasonal programs have included sea-turtle talks, family activities and citizen-science education.

Sams House at Pine Island, Merritt Island
Sams House combines conservation with local history. The site includes an 1875 cabin and an 1888 Florida vernacular house.
The county's July schedule included free house-and-cabin tours on Thursdays and Saturdays, Saturday bird walks and Sunday nature scavenger hunts. Touch-table programs give visitors a closer look at shells, bones, plants and other natural objects.
Barrier Island Center, Melbourne Beach
The Barrier Island Center sits within the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge. Admission to the center is free, and recurring offerings include touch tanks, sanctuary storytime, eco-art and conservation workshops.
Nighttime turtle walks and daytime nest digs are seasonal and can fill quickly. Some programs are free while others have a fee, so verify the listing before registering.
More than an event calendar
These programs make county conservation land easier to understand. A guided walk explains why a prescribed burn matters. A bird walk teaches someone what they have been hearing in their backyard. A historic-house tour connects a protected landscape to the families who lived on it before the surrounding roads and neighborhoods arrived.
