Brevard Libraries Invite Families to a Free 'Dinosaurs in Space' Celebration
Brevard County Libraries will close out summer reading with a free silent disco, dinosaur crafts, games, prizes and the Mobile Library in Palm Bay.
Brevard County Libraries are closing out summer reading with a free family party on Saturday, August 1, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Franklin T. DeGroodt Memorial Library in Palm Bay.
The celebration wraps up this year's Dinosaurs in Space Summer Reading Program, which has been running since June 6. The county says families can expect a silent disco, dinosaur-themed crafts and games, prize drawings and a visit from the Brevard County Mobile Library.
What is planned
The library system has listed four main activities:
- Silent disco: Participants use individual headphones to dance while the room itself stays surprisingly quiet.
- Dinosaur crafts and games: Hands-on activities tied to the summer reading theme.
- Mobile Library: Families can step inside Brevard County's traveling library and learn how it serves neighborhoods and community events.
- Prize drawings: Additional summer-reading prizes will be drawn during the event, and winners must be present to claim them.
The event is free, and the county's announcement does not list an advance-registration requirement.
There is still time to log reading
The Summer Reading Challenge runs through August 1. Readers of all ages can track minutes through the Beanstack app, including time spent reading independently, being read to or listening to an audiobook.
Each of Brevard's 17 library branches has its own collectible Brag Tag. Weekly small prizes have also been available at local branches, while the countywide grand prizes include a $50 Walmart gift card for readers 17 and younger and a $50 Publix gift card for adult readers.
Extra entries can be earned through Beanstack activities, library events and trivia challenges.

The library system's Read to Ride program also continues through August 9, allowing riders 18 and younger to use Space Coast Area Transit free with a valid library card.
