New Cape Canaveral Hotel Will Include Rooftop Launch Views
The 150-room Compass Hotel Cape Canaveral is planned to open in late 2027 with a rooftop deck overlooking Space Coast launches.
A new hotel rising near Port Canaveral is being designed around one amenity travelers cannot find in most vacation destinations: a rooftop place to watch rockets leave Earth.
Compass Hotel Cape Canaveral is planned as a 150-room boutique hotel at 8955 Columbia Road, close to the port's cruise terminals. The property is expected to open in late 2027.
Its signature feature will be a rooftop observation deck with unobstructed views toward Kennedy Space Center launches, paired with a rooftop satellite bar and lounge.
Built for cruise days and launch nights
Cape Canaveral hotels already serve travelers arriving before a cruise or staying one more night after a ship returns. The Compass project is betting that a launch-viewing experience can persuade some of those visitors to spend more time on the Space Coast.
Guests will be able to head upstairs instead of driving toward a crowded causeway or beach access when a rocket countdown begins. Launch schedules always change, but the deck gives the hotel a built-in gathering place whenever one holds.
The location also puts visitors near Port Canaveral, Cocoa Beach and Merritt Island.
What the hotel plans to include

Compass is the smaller boutique-hotel brand within Margaritaville's hospitality portfolio. Its properties use the same casual coastal identity while offering fewer rooms than a large resort.
A $38 million investment near the port
Local reporting places the project's investment at approximately $38 million. A groundbreaking event was held July 13 at the Columbia Road site, moving the hotel from a proposed development into active construction.
The project arrives as Port Canaveral continues handling millions of passenger movements each year. Many cruise guests stay in the area before sailing, creating demand for rooms, restaurants and transportation close to the terminals.
A hotel cannot guarantee a launch during a guest's stay. What it can offer is a place ready for one—a distinction that only a small number of destinations can make part of the architecture.
Questions still to be answered
The hotel has not yet published room rates or a detailed opening schedule beyond late 2027. It also has not publicly clarified whether the rooftop lounge and observation deck will be available to non-guests on launch days.
Those details will matter as construction moves forward. A public rooftop venue could become a new local launch-watching option, while a guest-only space would function more as a booking incentive.
For now, the concept is clear: cruise access below, launch views above and a hotel positioned between two of the Space Coast's biggest tourism draws.
