Cocoa School-Supply Drive Culminates With Community Collection Day
Cocoa's annual school-supply drive wraps up with a Walmart collection on August 1, followed by a free community giveaway on August 6.
Cocoa residents have two ways to take part in the city's annual school-supply effort this week: donate before the collection closes, or bring a student to the free community giveaway once the supplies are sorted.
The City of Cocoa and the Cocoa Police Foundation are collecting supplies through Saturday, August 1. The final large collection event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cocoa Walmart, 2700 Clearlake Road.
Where donations can be dropped off
Through August 1, supplies can be taken to the following city locations during regular business hours:
- Cocoa City Hall: 65 Stone Street
- Cocoa Police Department: 122 West King Street
- Fire Station 1: 1740 Dixon Boulevard
- Fire Station 2: 300 Brunson Boulevard
- Fire Station 3: 505 State Road 524
Shoppers can also bring donations directly to the Walmart collection event on August 1.
The city's current announcement does not publish a detailed item-by-item wish list. Standard new school supplies—such as backpacks, notebooks, pencils, folders, crayons and glue sticks—are practical choices. Donors seeking the most up-to-date priorities can contact the city before shopping.

Collected items will be distributed on Thursday, August 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dr. Joe Lee Smith Recreation Center, 415 Stone Street.
The giveaway is open to City of Cocoa residents and their students while supplies last. The city says a student must be present to receive a backpack.
That five-day turnaround between the final collection and the giveaway means late donations will move quickly from a store shelf or drop-off bin into the hands of a local student.
Why a community drive still matters
Back-to-school costs arrive all at once. A family may need several backpacks, stacks of notebooks and a different supply list for every grade level. A few donated basics can reduce that first-week expense and help a student walk into class prepared.
The same donations help teachers, too. When students arrive without supplies, classroom educators often fill the gap from their own cabinets or wallets. A community drive spreads that responsibility across more people.
